Howard S. Jonas founded IDT in August 1990 and has served as Chairman of the Board and Treasurer since its inception. He was Chief Executive Officer from December 1991 to August 2001. He served as President of the Company from December 1991 through September 1996. He is also Chairman of IDT Telecom and IDT Ventures and Investments.

Mr. Jonas is also the founder and has been President of Jonas Publishing Corp., a publisher of trade directories, since its inception in 1979.

Mr. Jonas graduated from the Bronx High School of Science and received a B.A. in Economics from Harvard University. He is a very active supporter of several charities nationally and in his community, and serves as a trustee on numerous university, hospital, religious and social service organization boards.

Mr. Jonas has actually been an entrepreneur since the age of 14, when he staked out a corner near the local hospital for his hot dog stand. From hot dogs he moved on to travel brochure distribution, business-to-business directories, mail-order bonsai Christmas trees, and soon ran one of the country’s largest direct mail businesses out of his dorm room at Harvard. When one of his employees moved overseas, he backed into the international telephone callback business.

Mr. Jonas lives in New York with his wife and 8 children. Ever iconoclastic and opinionated, he dedicated his recent autobiography to his family … at home and at IDT.
